Privacy Policy

Overview
Tespit is an AI-powered UI bug detection tool that runs entirely on your Mac. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how Tespit handles your data.
Data Collection
Tespit does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. The app runs locally on your device and does not communicate with any external servers or cloud services.
Screen Capture
Tespit captures screenshots only when you explicitly initiate a capture using the in-app buttons. Each capture takes a single static image of a user-selected screen region or window using the macOS system screenshot tool. No background, continuous, or automatic screen recording occurs.
The captured image is processed entirely on your device using Apple Vision (for text and element detection) and, on supported systems, Apple Intelligence via FoundationModels (for on-device AI analysis). No screenshot data, processed results, or any derived information is ever transmitted off your device.
Screenshots are held in application memory during your session and are not persisted to disk. They are released when you close the app or delete the report.
On-Device AI Processing
Tespit uses Apple's native on-device frameworks for all AI functionality:
- Apple Vision — Detects text elements, rectangular regions, and overlapping UI components from the captured screenshot. All processing runs locally via the Vision framework.
- Apple FoundationModels (macOS 26+) — Analyses detected elements using Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device language model. This runs entirely on your Mac's Neural Engine. On systems that do not support Apple Intelligence, a deterministic heuristic analysis is used instead.
Tespit does not use any third-party AI services. No data is sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any other external AI provider. All inference happens on-device.
Data Storage
Tespit stores the following data locally on your Mac:
- User preferences — Window size, capture count, and settings stored via standard macOS UserDefaults.
- Feedback ratings — If you rate a report as accurate or inaccurate, this rating is saved to
~/Library/Application Support/Tespit/feedback.json. This file contains only ratings and truncated element summaries (no screenshots). - Bug reports & screenshots — Held in memory only during your active session. Not written to disk. Released when you close the app.
No data is stored on any server, cloud service, or external location.
Third-Party Services
Tespit does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party services. There are no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising frameworks, or tracking libraries embedded in the app.
Analytics & Tracking
Tespit does not include any analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or tracking of any kind. No usage data is transmitted off your device.
Children's Privacy
Tespit does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
